    Utterly Devoted to Truth

Truth does not bargain with your circumstances

    Inscribed September 4, 2026

There comes a point where devotion to truth stops being a principle.

    It becomes muscle memory.

And once it reaches the body, it becomes non-negotiable.

Truth does not bargain with your circumstances.

It does not care that the timing is inconvenient.

It does not ask whether today is already difficult enough.

It does not soften itself because the consequences frighten you.

    It does not say,

    *Perhaps tomorrow.*

    It waits.

And the longer you refuse it, the louder your entire system becomes.

    For me, it is visceral.

Truth withheld feels almost like sickness.

A pressure begins somewhere deep in the body. In the pit of the stomach. A nauseating awareness that something is sitting inside me that no longer agrees with what exists outside me.

    And it builds.

    I can distract myself.

    Work.

    Move.

    Reason.

Tell myself that perhaps silence is wiser.

That perhaps the timing is wrong.

That perhaps speaking will disrupt too much.

    But truth does not negotiate.

    The needle does not move.

That is perhaps the strangest thing about becoming devoted to it.

Eventually, you develop an internal compass that becomes extraordinarily sensitive to distortion — including your own.

    Not merely lies.

    Distortion.

The technically accurate sentence that conceals the real one.

The omission that protects the image.

The softer word chosen because the precise one would have consequences.

The story you tell yourself because the truth underneath it is inconvenient.

Something in you begins to detect these things almost immediately.

And once detected, they become difficult to carry.

Because truth does not borrow language for safety.

It does not hide behind syntax.

It does not disappear inside metaphor so that everyone can remain comfortable.

Eventually, it asks to be spoken plainly.

    This is what happened.

    This is what I feel.

    This is what I did.

    This is what I want.

    This is what I fear.

    This is what I know.

This is what I do **not** know.

There is enormous freedom in that last one too.

Devotion to truth does not mean becoming certain about everything.

    Quite the opposite.

Sometimes truth requires you to surrender certainty.

    To say:

    I was wrong.

    I misunderstood.

I wanted this to be true.

I cannot prove what I believed.

I do not yet know what this means.

Truth has no loyalty to the version of you that existed yesterday.

And if you become truly devoted to it, neither can you.

That is why truth can feel disruptive.

    It interrupts.

    It changes conversations.

    It alters relationships.

    It ruins convenient narratives.

    It makes concealment physically exhausting.

It can arrive halfway through an ordinary day and refuse to leave until you turn toward it.

But I have learned something else.

    Truth does not ruin.

    Truth consecrates.

    There is a difference.

Truth may destroy what cannot survive being seen.

    It may burn through illusion.

It may strip away performance, pride, fantasy, self-protection and all the carefully constructed language we use to remain untouched by reality.

But what is true does not need to fear the fire.

    Only distortion burns.

And when the burning is finished, there is an extraordinary stillness.

    The nausea disappears.

    The pressure releases.

    The body settles.

Not necessarily because the outcome was good.

    Not because everyone understood.

Not because there were no consequences.

But because the inside and the outside are no longer fighting each other.

    There is alignment again.

And after enough years of choosing that alignment, something changes.

    You stop asking:

*Can I afford to tell the truth?*

    The question becomes almost incomprehensible.

Because truth is no longer something you choose when conditions permit.

It is the condition under which you are willing to live.

    That is devotion.

Not speaking truth when it makes you noble.

Not defending truth when it agrees with you.

Not demanding truth from everyone else while negotiating privately with your own distortions.

Devotion is allowing the needle to remain fixed even when you desperately want it to move.

    Even when truth embarrasses you.

    Even when it exposes you.

    Even when it costs you.

Even when a lie would make the day considerably easier.

The compass remains where it is.

    And eventually, so do you.

Utter devotion to truth is not comfortable.

    It is clean.

And once you have learned what clean feels like,

distortion becomes almost impossible to inhabit.

    So let truth interrupt.

    Let it expose.

    Let it correct.

Let it burn whatever cannot stand in its presence.

    Truth does not ruin.

    It consecrates.

    And when it burns,

    it burns clean.

    One question awaits you.
